The Graduate School of Business and Leadership (GSB&L) has proudly launched the 12th cohort of its Champions Programme, welcoming 22 passionate social entrepreneurs.
This prestigious programme – a collaboration between the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal – is designed to foster the growth and sustainability of social enterprises.
This year, more than 300 applicants vied for a place on the programme, with 22 entrepreneurs selected – each committed to community upliftment and social transformation.
The programme has already empowered many alumni to build sustainable enterprises with a global reach.
Dr Mlondi Vilakazi, Programme Manager, expressed pride in its ongoing impact, noting that the eight-month course continues to nurture a new generation of innovative changemakers.
‘The UKZN 2025 cohort of Champions is a dynamic group of social entrepreneurs from across KZN, each driving meaningful change in society,’ said Vilakazi.
‘This initiative not only equips them with innovative tools but also fosters a vibrant community of practice – crucial for long-term sustainability. By collaborating and sharing insights, these entrepreneurs will amplify their impact, create jobs, address social challenges, and elevate the socio-economic landscape of KZN.’
‘We are committed to advancing development and entrepreneurship-driven prosperity, and as the GSB&L, we are proud to be at the forefront of this movement,’ Vilakazi added.
In his welcome address, Mr Patrick Mbokazi from EDTEA praised the partnership, highlighting the vital role entrepreneurs play in reshaping South Africa’s economy.
He expressed excitement about the future of the programme and the development of policies supporting social entrepreneurship.
‘We look forward to supporting you on your journey and helping you achieve your mission of growing your enterprises,’ he said.
