UKZN Alumni Relations Hosts Successful Alumni Events in Cape Town

UKZN alumni gathered in Cape Town for afternoon tea and dinner.

UKZN Alumni Relations hosted an afternoon tea and dinner for Cape Town-based alumni.

The tea was held at the historic Alphen Hotel, while the dinner took place at the renowned Vineyard Hotel.

Alumni Relations Manager Mr Finn Christensen welcomed guests and shared updates on recent university developments, including infrastructure projects and the progress of Project Renewal.

The evening’s highlight was a talk by UKZN alumnus Mr Neil Andrew accompanied by his wife, Rozi, also a UKZN graduate.

Neil and Rozi co-founded the Baby Food Company in 2006. What began with just 10 employees has since grown into a thriving enterprise employing 66 people.

The company has earned three industry awards, including Product of the Year for fresh baby food in South Africa.

They produce a broad range of baby foods, sports nutrition products and ingredients for other brands, delivering 80 product lines weekly – totalling 50 tonnes per month.

During their presentation, Neil and Rozi highlighted the importance of systemisation, documentation and cash flow management in building a successful business.

They also shared insights into maintaining operations during COVID-19, adapting to shifts in product demand, and meeting Woolworths’ high-quality standards. Additionally, they discussed the unique challenges of managing a family business.

The event offered alumni the chance to reconnect, network and engage over dinner and drinks – strengthening ties within the wider UKZN community.
