UKZN Spring Graduation Kicks Off with Women Taking the Lead
Women make up 57% of the 1 310 graduands who are being awarded degrees during UKZN’s Spring Graduation ceremonies from 20 to 21 September.
Women also constitute 63% of those who are receiving their degrees cum laude; 58% of those receiving undergraduate degrees; and 56% of candidates are being awarded postgraduate degrees.
The ceremonies, held on the University’s Westville campus, kicked off with the College of Humanities, which conferred degrees to 491 graduates. The College of Law and Management Studies conferred 306 degrees, with the Colleges of Health Sciences and Agriculture, Engineering and Science awarding 198 and 315 degrees, respectively.
Fifteen disabled students are graduating – eight receiving their postgraduate degrees. Sixty percent of the disabled students ascending the graduation stage are women.
Executive Director of UKZN’s Corporate Relations Division, Ms Normah Zondo applauded the graduates, particularly the women who continue to take the lead in various disciplines. ‘Graduation is a special occasion when the University, families and well-wishers celebrate students’ achievements earned over many years of dedication and rigorous effort. The University has put much effort into ensuring this day is enjoyable and memorable for all our stakeholders. We want our graduates to have a lasting impression of UKZN so they may return to further their degrees and become our brand ambassadors wherever they go.
‘We count on our graduates to Inspire Greatness in whatever they do. Congratulations to all our graduates for their sterling achievement over many years of study,’ she said.
The Spring Graduation ceremonies are being live-streamed online via the University’s YouTube and Facebook official pages under the hashtag #UKZNGrad2023 and #UKZNSpringGrad23 during both the morning and afternoon sessions scheduled at 10h00 and 14h00, respectively.
